Fanthonio Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Ghana, under its One Friend One Box campaign has donated a hundred (100) cartons of sanitary pads to students of the Tolon Senior High School in the Northern Region. The donation took place at the school's premises on January 8, 2019.
Prior to the donation, the Founder of Fanthonio Foundation, Ms Felicia Anthonio and her team educated the students on personal hygiene and how to dispose off sanitary pads after use. Ms Anthonio also used the occasion to encourage students present to take their education seriously. She further challenged the female students to learn hard in order to compete with their male counterparts.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Fati Braimah expressed her appreciation for the kind gesture their students enjoyed from Fanthonio Foundation and challenged the girls to produce better grades to make everyone proud.
“Some of the girls use toilet rolls and unhygienic materials during their menstruation”, she lamented, adding that, the support from the Fanthonio Foundation has come at the right time.
Speaking to ghana360news.com, Mrs Fati Braimah thanked the Fanthonio Foundation team and urged other stakeholders and the general public to support the campaign.
This is the second donation exercise to be organised by Fanthonio Foundation within the last few months. The first donation was done at the Kwabenya Community High School in the Greater Accra Region. The One Friend One Box campaign seeks to support young school girls in deprived communities with sanitary pads to enable them stay in school throughout the academic year. The campaign aims at reducing absenteeism among young girls during menstruation.
